Pupils at Ercall Wood Technology College are building a twin seated RAN 6 light aircraft, which is a kit plane. We were awarded the plane by Boeing, who are encouraging avionic and engineering skills within schools. Their intention is to encourage an education plan to take place so that a number of pupils and the wider community benefit from the project. The build is supported by engineers from RAeS, STEM ambassadors and personnel from RAF Cosford. The intention is to sell the plane, as a fully functional light aircraft. In order to do this, we have to have the plane inspected by a LAA inspector, to ensure quality and safety. To ensure as many pupils as possible can benefit from the project, Ercall Wood have invited the Phoenix School to help with the build. The main build takes place at Ercall Wood, with some sub-assemblies being built at the Phoenix School. The plane is now part constructed and will be on exhibition at Cosford Airshow 2012. In addition the plane can be viewed during Ercall Wood Community days, with the next being held on Saturday 22nd September 2012. Please see our web page for other information, including pupils visit to Parliament, pictures of the build and other information. Anyone who would like to know more is welcome to contact Mary Parry-Sargent who leads the project at Ercall Wood.
