ICT Diploma

The ICT department at Ercall wood have being working collaboratively with Hadley Learning Community to offer the Higher Diploma in ICT which is equivalent to 8.5 GCSE’s including functional skills.

The ICT diploma is a great new way of combining class work with hands on experience. It will give students the knowledge and skills that they will need for college, university or work in an exciting, creative and enjoyable way. Students are based at HLC for one day a week and spend another day working at TCAT and/or New College and also have the chance to do some of their learning in the work-place.

Students will learn how organisations work and the role technology can play. Students will analyse business problems and learn how to develop IT systems to meet business needs and help organizations and people.

To complete the Higher Diploma successfully, you will:
• Investigate and describe how technology is transforming organisations.
• Develop an understanding of organisations and business processes.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate and operate effectively in a business-like environment.
• Develop professional-oriented skills including the ability to create business proposals, with particular focus on the confident and appropriate use of English and Maths.
• Design and develop technology-enabled solutions to meet a business need, using macro and script programming, and solve problems arising in technology systems.
• Design and develop a multimedia product that demonstrates understanding of business requirements, technical competence and awareness of audience needs.
• Apply principles of project management to create task-based project plans.
• Plan and complete a project that demonstrates holistic understanding across the Diploma programme and Personal, Learning and Thinking Skills.

In addition, you will have undertaken Additional or Specialist Learning to complement this Generic and Principal Learning content.

Each Diploma has a requirement for a minimum of 10 days’ work experience, related to work based activities, to support the programme of study.

Work experience will:
• support the development and recognition of work-related learning
• build on previous work experience
• develop sector skills when set in relevant settings
• develop general employability skills
• enhance the overall learning experience
• allow flexibility around how evidence of attainment is achieved.

It allows you to draw together, apply and add to your knowledge and enable you to develop confidence and expertise.
